BETHPAGE, NY — The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is creating a new community group to help with the cleanup efforts of the Grumman plume.

As part of the legal settlement between the DEC and Northrop Grumman, the DEC is creating a Community Participation Work Group. The group will serve as liaisons between the community and the DEC, Grumman, the Navy and other stakeholders.

The DEC will be holding a community meeting to go over the creation of the group in more detail on March 7. The meeting will be held at the Bethpage Community Center, located at 103 Grumman Road West, from 5 to 8 p.m. Experts from the DEC, Department of Health, United States Geological Survey, the Navy and Northrop Grumman will be at the meeting and available to answer questions from residents.
