$10,000 State Grant Awarded To Amityville School District

Amityville Union Free School District has been awarded a $10,000 grant, New York State Senator Monica R. Martinez announces.

AMITYVILLE, NY—Amityville Union Free School District has been awarded a $10,000 grant, New York State Senator Monica R. Martinez announced Wednesday.

The money aims to "enhance their environmental research center for students," Martinez's office told Patch. The center will provide students with hands on learning opportunities in environmental science and sustainability.

In addition to the school district funding, the Citizenship Initiative for Change received $10,000 was granted to assist minority groups in navigating the citizenship examination process.

The Suffolk County Police Athletic League, Inc. also for received $15,000 to expand mentoring and camp programs.

"I am proud to have had the opportunity to support these initiatives that will provide important services within our community,” Martinez said. "This funding will help each organization fulfill its mission and improve lives within the Fourth Senatorial District."

The grants were released from funding provided through the state’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget, adopted earlier this spring. Additional award announcements are expected throughout the summer, Martinez said.
