The students at Alleghany Avenue Elementary School have a fun new way to earn free books. The school recently introduced a book vending machine, which students are able to use after demonstrating good behavior.

The book vending machine was introduced as part of the school’s Practice Respect, Accept Responsibility, Work Hard, and Safety Matters—or PAWS—schoolwide behavior program. Students are rewarded with access to the machine, and the books inside, for demonstrating one or more of these important behavioral habits.

It is a visually appealing and interactive way to get students excited about reading and to encourage good behavior. To kick off the vending machine unveiling, every student at Alleghany received one free book to read over the summer. The initiative is being supported by the Alleghany PTA.
