Lindenhurst Home Improvement Class Gets a Lesson in Safety

Local Electrical Union, County Officials Donate Safety Equipment to Students

A local electrical union and Suffolk County officials visited Lindenhurst High School’s home improvement class to talk about the importance of safety while working with electricity. In addition to the discussion, the union donated construction safety equipment to the class.

The union members, from IBEW 1049, along with Legislator Kevin McCaffrey, and Chief of Staff Guy Calla met with the students, who are studying home construction, including how to work on a home’s electrical infrastructure. The union members explained the ins and outs of working with electrical outlets and cables, and the life-threatening danger they can pose when not handled correctly. The visitors also donated safety equipment, including safety glasses, protective gloves, hard hats and safety vests for the students to use during their studies.
