LONG ISLAND, NY — You don't have to go to New Orleans, Louisiana, for traditional King Cake as Mardi Gras comes to a close with Fat Tuesday this week — the colorful and tasty cake can be found all across Long Island.

Tradition has it that whoever gets the piece with the small plastic baby, or the little king symbolizing baby Jesus, is called the king or queen for the night. They are supposed to be prosperous for the next year, and that said, believers of the legend hold that person to sharing their prosperity with others.

The king or queen is charged with bringing the cake to the next event.
