A wind advisory will be in effect from noon until 6 p.m. Wednesday on Long Island, the National Weather Service said.

Sustained winds of 20-25 mph with gusts of 45-50 mph are expected during the afternoon. That's strong enough to down tree limbs and power lines. Scattered power outages are possible.

"Cannot entirely rule out some higher gusts closer to 55 mph late this afternoon as the event peaks," the NWS said in forecast discussion.
