55 MPH Winds Possible Friday On Long Island

A wind advisory has been issued for the region with power outages possible. See the latest forecast.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A wind advisory will be in effect across Long Island Friday with gusts up to 55 mph expected during the evening commute.

The advisory begins at 10 a.m., but the strongest winds are likely during the late afternoon and evening, the National Weather Service says.

Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects, the weather service advises.

Thursday Night- Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then a slight chance of showers between 2am and 5am. Low around 55. South wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday- Isolated showers after 11am. Sunny, with a high near 68. Windy, with a west wind 17 to 22 mph increasing to 28 to 33 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 40. Windy, with a west wind 29 to 34 mph decreasing to 21 to 26 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph.

Saturday- Sunny, with a high near 68. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph.

Saturday Night- A 20 percent chance of showers. Increasing clouds, with a low around 49. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph.

Sunday- Partly sunny, with a high near 74.

Sunday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51.

A 40 percent chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 67.

A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52.
