Addy Otten, Past President of Woman's Club of Patchogue, Dies Within Hours of Husband of 67 Years

Services for Addy and Bob Otten to be held this weekend.

Bayport residents Addy and Bob Otten died within 15 hours of each other last week after 67 years of marriage.

Addy was going to visit her husband, who was in hospice care at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, when she suffered a fatal heart attack, according to an obituary on the Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral home website.

Adeline (Addy) Otten (nee Ramunno) and Robert (Bob) Otten, beloved residents of Bayport for 60 years, died on October 2nd and October 3rd respectively, within 15 hours of each other. Mr. Otten was in hospice care at Good Samaritan Hospital and Mrs. Otten suffered a fatal heart attack on her way to visit him.

Mrs. Otten was born on October 8, 1926 in Sag Harbor, the daughter of Paul Ramunno and Concetta DelMonico. She graduated from the Sacred Heart Academy in Sag Harbor and upon graduation from Hunter College, began a career in banking.

Mr. Otten was born on November 20, 1922 in Brooklyn, the son of Herman Otten and Helen Knowlton. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy, assigned to duty aboard a submarine during World War II. He was honorably discharged on January 25, 1946.

Addy and Bob were married in St. Andrew R.C. Church in Sag Harbor on September 14, 1947 and began married life in Hollis, Queens.

Mrs. Otten’s banking career brought them to Bayport where they bought a home and where she continued her career in the Sayville branch of Eastern Federal Savings and Loan from which she retired in 1991 as Vice President. Mr. Otten, meanwhile worked in the engineering field including jobs at Rowe Industries in Sag Harbor and Republic Aircraft in Farmingdale.

Mrs. Otten volunteered her services at the Woman’s Club of Patchogue and was a Past President. Mr. Otten was considered an Auxiliary Member of this organization.

They both loved the water and were 53 year members of the Sayville Yacht Club.

In the 1970’s Addy joined Bayport Homemaker’s Unit (formerly Homemaker’s Extension) giving her an outlet to express her many creative talents and was a past Treasurer.

After they both retired, Bob first, then Addy, they began volunteering together at the Sayville Cabinet for the Sick, for the Hope House Ministries, Mercy Center Ministries, registering voters for the Board of Elections and most often at their parish of Our Lady of the Snow....being chairpersons for fund-raising activities for charities such as Outreach. She was a Lector and a member of the Consolation Ministry and they both counted the collection money. They were honored by the Diocese with the St. Agnes Medal for their services.

Mrs. Otten is survived by her brother Vincent Ramunno of Sag Harbor. A sister Lucille Kiselyak, pre-deceased her. Both are survived by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

Memorial visitation will be held at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home on Montauk Highway in Bayport, 2-4 p.m.and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, October 10th and a Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Snow in Bayport on Saturday, October 11th at 9:45 a.m.
