ALBANY, NY — The state's Department of Motor Vehicles could suspend the licenses of around 51,000 drivers on Friday if they are not in adherence with a guideline from the COVID-19 pandemic that let some put off their vision test, the agency told Newsday.

The guideline allowed drivers to self-certify their vision to renew their licenses, but it only included drivers whose licenses expired between March 1, 2020, and Aug. 31, 2021, and was in place to reduce crowds at DMV offices, according to the outlet.

Drivers who self-certified and have not provided proof their vision meets requirements to drive will have their license suspended Friday, the outlet reported.
