High Wind Warning in Effect For Long Island

Widespread power outages are expected through Monday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Long Island. It will be in effect until 6 p.m. Monday.

Sustained winds of 25-35 will gust up to 65 mph, strong enough to blow down trees and power lines.

Widespread power outages are expected and travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, the NWS says.

Winds will gradually begin to subside Monday night as high pressure builds into the region, resulting in a dry but somewhat breezy day on Tuesday.

Tuesday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 16. Northwest wind 9 to 15 mph.

Wednesday- Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33.

Wednesday Night- A 30 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 27.

Thursday- Partly sunny, with a high near 39.

Thursday Night- A 30 percent chance of snow after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28.

Friday- A chance of rain and snow before noon, then a chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 40. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
