LIRR Comes Back Like Seabiscuit

After last year's catastrophe, Long Island Rail Road redeemed itself during the Belmont Stakes.

Belmont Stakes attendees were pleasantly surprised by the Long Island Rail Road’s return service after the race.

After last year’s catastrophic service home, LIRR riders said the trip was better by leaps and bounds.

While it was an improvement over last year, there were still some chaotic bumps for LIRR riders.

@AnthonyAuriemmo tweeted, “The #lirr is killing me right now. Been waiting to leave for 24 mins. Making my connection seems unlikely.”

When you got here, it was chaos. Long delays. A lot of people just didn’t really know what to do” last year, said Nick Wagner, 26, of Bushwick, according to Newsday. “This year, they had people directing people. It’s a lot better this year.”

“You can see there’s crowd control -- it’s totally safe ... I would have to say this is a fantastic event,” said Scott Abercrombie, 56, of Greenwich, Conn., according to the report.
