Man Who Fled On Foot After Fatal Suffolk Crash Arrested: Police

The crash left one passenger dead and another injured, police say.

MEDFORD, NY — A man who fled on foot from the scene of a crash that killed one passenger and seriously injured another in Medford has been arrested, police said.

According to Suffolk County Police, detectives arrested Dolores Mancia-Landaverde, 28, of Medford, who was driving a 2008 BMW that struck a tractor-trailer on Horseblock Road at Express Drive North on Saturday at 1:52 a.m.

One passenger in the BMW, Hedilberto Nava Perez, 44, of Medford, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said. Another passenger, Adan Nava Palacios 20, of Medford, is currently at Stony Brook University Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Mancia-Landaverde, 28, of Medford, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an incident involving a fatality, police said. He is being held at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday, police said.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured, police said. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
