MEDFORD, NY — A man was pulled unconscious, having nearly drowned, from a backyard swimming pool in Medford on Saturday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

Officers responded to a Pennsylvania Avenue home after a 911 caller reported a possible drowning at 4:33 p.m., according to police. The 37-year-old, a resident of the home, had been pulled unconscious from a swimming pool on the property, police said.

He was airlifted by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition, according to police.
