SCCBSA Celebrates Selection as Stop & Shop Community Bag Beneficiary

The Boy Scouts of America, Suffolk County Council Celebrates Selection as a Stop & Shop Community Bag Program Beneficiary

Farmingville, NY – The Boy Scouts of America, Suffolk County Council has been selected as a beneficiary of the Stop & Shop Community Bag Program for the month of September.

The Stop & Shop Community Bag Program, which launched in May 2019, is a reusable bag program that facilitates community support with the goal to make a difference in the communities where shoppers live and work.

The Suffolk County Council was selected as the September beneficiary of the program by store leadership at the Stop & Shop located at 2350 North Ocean Avenue, Farmingville, NY. The Council will receive a $1 donation every time the $2.50 reusable Community Bag is purchased at this location during September, unless otherwise directed by the customer through the Giving Tag attached to the bag.

“The Suffolk County Council of BSA is very excited to be chosen as a beneficiary of the Stop & Shop Community Bag Give Back Program,” said Lisa Kurtzrock, Development Director of The Boy Scouts of America, Suffolk County Council. “We are thrilled to be recognized as a worthy community partner. The funds received through the Community Bag Program will help fulfill our mission to deliver programs which will provide life and leadership skills for the next generation of capable, concerned citizens that will continue to make this country compassionate, strong and successful.”

The Boy Scouts of America, Suffolk County Council is a nonprofit based in Farmingville, New York. Founded in 1919, the Suffolk County Council is the premier youth development program in Suffolk County, providing a comprehensive values-based program that develops character, teaches citizenship, and encourages personal fitness to more than 7,500 youth each year. In addition to traditional Scouting programs, the Council provides a Learning for Life Division that offers career education programs for youth. Learning for Life in school program provides career speakers to local schools to educate students on opportunities. The Exploring program provides real world experience for youth to explore different career fields. In addition, the service center offers Scouting for individuals with special needs via their FDR Division. Programs include traditional Scouting, group home and agency Scouting, and in school Scouting programs. Programs can be customized for the participants and include coed programs such as Exploring and Learning for Life. Participants can be any age.
