Special Weather Statement Issued For Long Island

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for Long Island.

LONG ISLAND, NY — The National Weather Service issued the following special weather statement for Long Island Wednesday morning:

Scattered snow showers will continues this morning. These snow showers may produce an additional coating of snow. Temperatures also remain at or below freezing across much of the area. Any untreated surfaces may be icy and slippery. Proceed with extra caution if traveling this morning.

The major roadways are moving and no crashes have been reported so far, according to 511. A few school districts have announced 2-hour delayed openings, according to News 12.

Wednesday- Scattered snow showers, mainly before 9am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. Northwest wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday Night- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northwest wind 10 to 13 mph.

Thursday- Sunny, with a high near 37. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. Northwest wind 9 to 11 mph.

Thursday Night- Partly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 31. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph becoming southwest after midnight.

Friday- A chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 10am, then a chance of rain and snow between 10am and 11am, then rain likely after 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 44. South wind 7 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday Night- A chance of rain before 9pm, then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 35.
