Rebuilding Together Long Island Supports Our Vets

Local veteran gets a helping hand

The volunteers of Rebuilding Together Long Island were to able to assist Army veteran, Maria of Medford, with needed home repairs and at no cost to Maria. A cancer fighter, Maria, was struggling with the upkeep of the ranch home she loved. It was perfect timing because at the time they learned about Maria's needs, Rebuilding Together Long Island had just been invited to participate in a competitive grant process being sponsored by USAA. Successful in receiving the grant, they got right to work. New flooring was installed, sheetrock repaired, safety grab bars were put in and new patio doors replaced the existing ill fitting doors and rotting frame. A new water heater will also soon be installed. Maria was touched by the kindness and generosity of all the volunteers including the wonderful employees of Renewal by Andersen of Long Island who worked with the Rebuilding crew to get the job done. "It's our way of giving back and saying thank you for your service" said Stella Hendrickson, Director of Rebuilding.
