MEDFORD, NY — Suffolk County Off Track Betting plans to sell its 30-acre property along the Long Island Expressway service road in Medford, so that a developer can construct a warehouse, but not without some neighborhood opposition, according to a report in Newsday.

A New Jersey developer is proposing to build a roughly 400,000-square-foot warehouse at the location, where a casino was once planned and also opposed by neighbors who live nearby, the outlet reported. The neighbors told the outlet that, if constructed, the warehouse would create too much traffic and truck noise, so they are calling for an expansion of a 75-foot buffer of trees and shrubs between the warehouse and their residential neighborhood.

The project's zoning changes were approved 7-0 last week by the Brookhaven Town Board, but site plan approval is still needed from the town Planning Board before ground is broken, Newsday reported.
