Ignore Zeldin's promises—his votes on Social Security reveal the truth.

September 16, 2020— Despite Zeldin's promises to “protect and preserve Medicare and Social Security for our seniors,”Rep. Zeldin has voted to dismantle both programs since joining Congress in 2014. Guess he hopes the 129,004 residents age 65+ in NY-01 won’t see his voting record and discover he’s been lying all these years.

Campaign Con Job
While campaigning, Zeldin promised that he "would not deny seniors the benefits they’ve relied upon for their Golden Years.” But after he won, Zeldin co-sponsored a radical amendment to the Constitution that would withhold Social Security benefits until the government first paid off its deficit—even if this took years. (HJ Res. 55, Vote # 2/2/15)

Once Elected, Changes Tune
Days after Zeldin was first sworn into the House of Representives, he voted to block the routine transfer of payroll taxes to the Social Security Disability Trust Fund, threatening 19,789 disabled workers in NY-01 with a 19% cut to their benefits. (H Res 5, Vote #6, 1/06/15) (Politico)

Voted to Close Social Security Offices
In another blow to the 154,041 people in NY-01 who rely on Social Security—retirees, disabled workers, children, spouses, and widow(ers)— Zeldin voted to close Social Security offices in every congressional district across the country. Zeldin was the only NY rep to vote for this bill. (Amdt. 306 to HR 2740, Vote #289, 6/1/19)
