Presentation on Belmont Park Modernization to be Heard at LIRPC

New York Racing Association Board Member Michael Dubb will Outline Temporary and Permanent Job Creation, Economic Benefits & Added Features

The modernization of the famed Belmont Park, opened in 1905 and last renovated in 1968, and the benefits it will provide to the region will be presented by the New York Racing Authority (NYRA) to the Long Island Regional Planning Council on Wednesday, May 15.

Michael Dubb, NYRA Board Member, will provide an overview of the $455 million project, which began in March of this year and is expected to be completed mid-summer of 2026. Features include a modernized grandstand to seat 7,500, updated visitor amenities such as suites, clubs and restaurants, expanded green space and -- for the first time – access to the Belmont infield.

The project is expected to generate $1 billion in construction-related economic impact along with 3,700 temporary construction jobs. Once completed, Belmont Park is projected to generate $155 million in annual economic impact to the region and create more than 700 full-time jobs.

“Through a loan to the New York Racing Association which will be paid at no cost to the taxpayers, the state is making a significant and much-needed investment to modernize Belmont Park, which has a storied place in Long Island’s history and in the world of horse racing” noted John Cameron, LIRPC Chairman. “We welcome the excitement the new facility will bring to fans and recognize the substantial economic benefits our region will derive.”
