Girl Scouts of Connecticut Hosts Community Camp-Out Sept. 13th

ANNUAL OVERNIGHT COMMUNITY CAMP EVENT FOSTERS LOVE OF OUTDOORS

Girl Scouts love the great outdoors as it’s a place where girls make new friends, build campfires, hike trails and connect with the larger world around them. Now, members of Girl Scouts of Connecticut (GSOFCT) are sharing their love of nature with their family by hosting an Overnight Camp-Out at Hammonassett State Park in Madison, Conn. on September 13, 2024. The annual event is part of the “Girl Scouts Love State Parks” national initiative created by Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) and the National Association of State Park Directors (NASPD).

“We are so excited to be offering this unique, hands-on experience, which showcases the stunning beauty of our state parks and our Girl Scouts’ passion for exploring the great outdoors,” said Elicia Pegues Spearman, Esq., chief executive officer at Girl Scouts of Connecticut. “As one of the four primary pillars of our organization, every outdoor adventure grows a Girl Scout’s ‘I’ve got this’ attitude and we can’t wait to share that magic with the larger Connecticut community!”

Spearman also notes that the “Girl Scouts Love State Parks” program supports the national “No Child Left Inside” movement in the U.S., which seeks to encourage and provide funding for environmental education. Its goals include the enhancement of environmental literacy between kindergarten and 12th grade students, while fostering understanding, analysis, and solutions to environmental challenges.
