NYC Weather Forecast: 'Snow Alert' Issued, 6 Inches Possible

The National Weather Service is preparing New Yorkers for a snowy Saturday.

NEW YORK, NY — New York City could get hit with as many as six inches of snow in some places this weekend as part of a winter storm sweeping the Southeast and East Coast of the United States, the National Weather Service said Friday.

The snow is expected to fall starting on Saturday morning, as temperatures remain in the low- to mid-30s, and continue into Saturday night.

A "Winter Weather Advisory" has been issued for the area calling for four to six inches across the five boroughs.

Alternate Side Parking regulations have been suspended for Saturday.

The city's Department of Sanitation issued a "snow alert" for Saturday, and will coordinate with the Office of Emergency Management and Department of Transportation to clear streets.

"This is not a drill," DSNY Commissioner Kathryn Garcia told reporters Friday. "We are getting ready. We are plowing up.

Friday is expected to be a mostly cloudy day with high temperatures topping out around 44 and wind chills in the 30s. There is a small chance of snow Friday night.

The bulk of the snow is forecasted to fall on Saturday. By Sunday, temperatures will be back in the high-30s.

Tonight

A 30 percent chance of snow after 4am. Cloudy, with a low around 33. West wind 3 to 5 mph.

Saturday

Snow, mainly after 10am. High near 34. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Light and variable wind becoming north 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Saturday Night

Snow likely, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. North wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Sunday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. West wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Sunday Night

Partly cloudy, with a low around 29.
