Herricks High School Announces 2023 Valedictorian, Salutatorian

NEW HYDE PARK, NY — Herricks High School has announced the Class of 2023 valedictorian and salutatorian. Jeylin Lee and Ashley Lam took the top honors, hearing their names during the school morning announcements on Nov. 23 with parents, grandparent and siblings there as well.

Valedictorian Lee has taken the hardest classes at Herricks, completing Spanish 5 AP in the Language Immersion program as a sophomore, conducting four years of science research, and taking the toughest calculus and physics courses available at the high school. Lee was also a National Merit Semifinalist.

She is an elite musician, one of eight selected to perform at the 43rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors. She plays varsity volleyball and is on the executive board for three clubs: Mathletes, Coding Club and Science Olympiad. She has also worked Dr. Tim Duong’s lab at Montefiore Medical Center helping to study diabetic ketoacidosis and COVID-19.

Lam has taken AP Computer Science and calculus, done four years of science research and studied physics. She is passionate about STEM, competing in academic competitions and received the Rensselaer Medal, Meritorious Award from the Long Island Science Congress. She also won first place at the WAS Lighting Invitational Science Fair.

Lam has performed with the Chamber Orchestra for three years, and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She was also a National Merit Semifinalist and is president of the Coding Club and Mathletes. Lam also volunteers at Sloan Memorial Kettering Cancer Center and Robotics for All.
