Herricks Student Wins Hofstra's Diversity Essay Contest: ICYMI

NEW HYDE PARK, NY — A Herricks High School junior Carolyn Lau snagged first place in Hofstra University's Celebration of Suburban Diversity essay contest.

The contest, sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, was developed in conjunction with the National Center for Suburban Studies at Hofstra University.

For winning first place, Lau will receive a $1,500 scholarship. This amount will be matched if she decides to attend Hofstra.

"Carolyn is an outstanding student," said Michael Imondi, district director of ELA, reading and library services. "She is a hard-working, dedicated writer who constantly hones her craft. We couldn't be prouder of her!"
