Santa Virtually Visits Young Hospital Patients On Long Island

Santa, communicating from his home in the North Pole, used special technology to discuss Christmas lists with the children.

Santa Claus recently made a special virtual visit to young patients at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park.

Santa, communicating from his home in the North Pole, used a video monitor and web-enabled camera to discuss Christmas lists with the children in the third floor playroom of the medical center. Popular wish list items were electric guitars, video games, toy trucks and art books.

Santa was also able to virtually travel room-to-room for a personal bedside visit for the patients who didn’t feel well enough to leave their rooms.

The technology was provided by Presidio and Cisco Systems.

“We’re so happy that Cisco was able to bring their expertise once again to Cohen during this holiday season,” Danielle Young, special events and donations coordinator at Cohen Children’s, said in a press release. “Thanks to them, we are able to bring Santa to the children. During this time of year, it’s very difficult for children and their loved ones to be away from home. Events such as these help make Chanukah and Christmas a happier time for these families.”
