2 MD Residents Accused Of Having Illegal Handgun In New Rochelle

Police said they initially stopped the pair for running a red light on Main Street.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Two Maryland residents were accused of having an illegal handgun after a traffic stop in New Rochelle Saturday.

The New Rochelle Police Department said, around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, officers conducted a traffic stop at 710 Main St. for a vehicle that passed through a steady red traffic light.

Law enforcement said the vehicle was found to have a fraudulent temporary tag instead of a properly registered license plate and was subsequently impounded.

During a search of the vehicle, a 9mm Ruger handgun with a large capacity magazine was found in the vehicle.

After further investigation, both the driver and passenger were charged with possessing the weapon.

Reiving Rivera-Ramos, 33, and Jenner Garcia, 26, both of Greenbelt, Maryland, were charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, a misdemeanor.

Rivera-Ramos was also charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony.
