NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The forecast doesn't look promising, but if the rain clouds stay away, a popular Long Island Sound beach will be ready for swimmers and sunbathers.

The Westchester County Health Department has reopened Hudson Park East Beach in New Rochelle, after the latest water samples showed acceptable results within sanitary code standards.

The two other Westchester-regulated beaches closed earlier this week due to algae on Mohegan Lake remain closed. The Mohegan Colony Association Beach and the Mohegan Beach Park District Beach, both on Mohegan Lake, are still closed to swimmers.

"Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the Westchester County website for the latest updates on beach closures and reopening schedules," county health officials said, announcing the lifting of the closure order. "The County remains committed to maintaining high standards of environmental health and safety across its recreational facilities."

The county's Beach Surveillance Program is designed to protect the public from illnesses associated with swimming in waters that are contaminated.
