Main Street Shooting Suspect Arrested At New Roc Parking Garage

Police say the New Rochelle man fired at least one shot at a large group that had gathered off Main Street shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Police have arrested a suspect connected to weekend gun violence in the city.

On Saturday, just after 11 p.m., New Rochelle police received a call about shots fired near 361 Main Street. Police quickly connected a suspect vehicle to the shooting and moments later, detectives located that vehicle pulling into the nearby New Roc City parking garage.

Police said two occupants of the car were detained while officers looked for evidence of the shooting.

A .380 shell casing was located near the lower parking lot of 361 Main Street and a loaded .380 firearm was located on Fountain Place. Investigators believe that one suspect fired a single shot from the area of the lower parking lot at 361 Main Street, towards the upper parking lot of 361 Main Street where a large group of people were gathered.

Investigators placed the passenger of the vehicle, later identified as Raymond Gilkes, under arrest for the shooting. The 37-year-old New Rochelle resident has been charged with felony reckless endangerment and felony criminal possession of a weapon.
