NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle residents are out of excuses for missing recycling day — there’s an app for that now. The city is among 12 other municipalities in Westchester County to take part in the new initiative.

The Recycle Right Westchester mobile app can now be downloaded by New Rochelle residents. The app and interactive website will let homeowners know exactly when garbage, recycling and special pickup collection times are at their individual addresses. The app for Apple and Android devices also has a nifty “Recyclopedia” feature that allows users to search how specific household items can best be disposed of, recycled or composted.

“This new app and online tool make it easier for residents to correctly identify and sort the variety of materials disposed of in households every day,” Public Works Commissioner James Moran explained. “Even small changes will translate over time to tons of waste diverted from our landfills.”

In addition to the app, the Recycle Right program can also be accessed online here. New Rochelle residents are now able to type in their home address directly into the “My Schedule” tool, where they can sign up for garbage, recycling and special trash pickup reminders through email, phone call, or text message. Personalized trash collection schedules can also be imported directly to users' iCal, Google calendars or Microsoft Outlook calendars for easy reference and alerts.
