Whether you're looking for flowers, vegetables or herbs, plant sales can help you find out what grows best in your area.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY—If you missed the Mother’s Day plant sales, there are still a few chances to find the best flowers, herbs and vegetables for your garden. Local organizations throughout the Hudson Valley offer gardeners a chance to acquire some beautiful specimens and at the same time help a worthy cause.

Westchester

Lasdon Arboretum Plant Sale & Garden Show

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 20 at the arboretum at 2610 Amawalk Road in Katonah.

Admission is free.

The sale will include both hard to find and popular annuals, as well as vegetables and fruits.

The N.Y. Unit of the Herb Society of America Spring Meeting and Sale

The society will hold their New York Unit Spring meeting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18 at the John Jay Homestead, 400 Jay Street, Route 22 inKatonah.

Horticulturist and plant historian Deirdre Larkin will speak about medicinal herbs. An herbal lunch will be served and herb-related kitchen and garden products will be available for sale. Registration begins at
10 a.m. The program is open to all HSA members and the general public.

Fee: A donation of $20 to support the Herb Garden is suggested. Register at [email protected].

Rockland

The Garden Club of Nyack Plant Sale

The club will have a plant sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 20 at 507 North Broadway in Upper Nyack.

The sale will include perennials, shrubs and trees from the members’ gardens, as well as annuals and perennials from Bumps & Co, bulbs from the International Bulb Company, and homemade baked goods

Proceeds benefit the Garden Club of Nyack, which is dedicated to promoting the beautification of Nyack and its surrounds, horticultural education for children and adults, and encouraging organic gardening, water friendly landscaping and the use of native plants.

Hudson Valley

Ulster County Plant Swap & Sale

The 19th Annual plant swap and sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 3 at Forsyth Park Pavilion, 157 Lucas Avenue in Kingston. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County/Master Gardeners presents
the sale.

Here's how you can take part: Pot up your plants by May 20th. Drop plants off on Saturday morning between 9-10am. Swappers receive vouchers for the plants they drop off. Swappers return at 11am to swap vouchers
for plants. At 11:30am the swap opens to the public for plant sale. No early birds please.

Annual Frederick W. Vanderbilt Garden Association Plant Sale

The sale takes place from 9 a.m. May 27 to 4p.m. May 29 at the Vanderbilt Historic Site, 4097 Albany Post Rd. in Hyde Park.

The annual three-day sale at Vanderbilt Mansion parking lot features thousands of annuals and perennials. All profits support operation and restoration of the Vanderbilt garden. All plants are locally grown. The
plant sale is held annually every Memorial Day weekend.

Fee: Free admission

Dutchess County Master Gardeners Plant Sale

The sale takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 19 at the Dutchess County Farm & Home Center, 2715 Route 44 in Millbrook.

Each year Master Gardener volunteers and Cornell Cooperative Extension staff grow and sell a wide variety of annuals, perennials, vegetables and herbs. Some of these varieties are favorites, while others are new introductions. There’s also a Master Gardener info booth set up, where volunteers will answer gardening questions and help make plant selections.

Fee: Admission is free.

Visa, MC, checks and cash accepted. The sale benefits the Community Horticulture Program.

Putnam

Putnam Master Gardener Plant Sale

The sale takes place from 8:30 a.m. to noon May 20 at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Putnam County, Terravest Corporate Park, 1 Geneva Road in Brewster.

The Master Gardener Plant Sale features heirloom and hybrid vegetables selected by Master Gardeners for Putnam County gardens. This includes tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and other popular vegetable seedlings as well as annuals and herbs, tough perennials and beautiful shrubs chosen to thrive in Putnam County.

Fee: Free admission and parking; plants at cost.
