The average snow shoveler burns about 8 to 10 calories a minute, the Chicago Tribune reports.

According to the calculator, a 160-pound adult who shovels snow for 60 minutes will have burned 396 calories.

Unfortunately, the calculator doesn’t take into consideration the weight of the snow or the amount of snow being picked up. It could be likely that you’re burning a whole lot more than what the calculator says.

Heart attacks are a major cause of death during the winter due to cold temperatures putting an extra strain on your heart. Do not overexert yourself while shoveling snow and remember to warm up before you begin digging.
