4 Nabbed In Underage Drinking Compliance Sweep: Police

The compliance check of 12 vendors led to 4 arrests, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Four store clerks were nabbed in an underage drinking compliance sweep in Riverhead Thursday, police said.

The Riverhead Town Police Department's community-oriented police enforcement division, with cooperation from the Riverhead Community Awareness Program, conducted a State Liquor
Authority compliance check at 12 retail vendors throughout town, resulting in four arrests, police said.

The compliance check targeted the sale of alcohol products to patrons under the age of 21.

The following vendors were found not to be in compliance, according to police:

- Sabor Deli Latino, 192 Old Country Road, Riverhead

- Sound Avenue Liquors, 5085 Sound Avenue, Riverhead

- MG Deli of Riverhead, 999 East Main Street, Riverhead

- Pueblo Latino Deli, 719 East Main Street, Riverhead

Four clerks were arrested and charged with one count each of first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child, a misdemeanor, police said; all four were processed and released on a desk appearance ticket with a future court date, authorities added.

The following vendors were found to be in compliance, police said:

-The Thirsty Cellar, 6324 Rt. 25A, Wading River

- Valero Gas, 5904 Rt. 25A, Wading River

- Gulf Gas Station, 1879 Old Country Road, Riverhead

- One Stop Smoke Shop, 1698 Old Country Road, Riverhead

- JD Grocery and Deli, 873 Old Country Road, Riverhead

- Gala Fresh, 795 Old Country Road, Riverhead

- El Chapincito, 800 East Main Street, Riverhead

- F.A. Grocery, 733 East Main Street, Riverhead
