A blizzard warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibility are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous.

"Do not travel," the NWS says. "If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle."

"It will be warm enough for precipitation to start out as rain or a mixture of rain and snow across coastal sections, but a change over to all snow is expected before rush hour Thursday morning," the NWS says. "Speaking of rush hour, Thursday's morning commute will be rather treacherous as the snow will come down moderate to heavy at times during this time frame."

The heaviest snow is expected Thursday morning into the afternoon. Snowfall rates of 2-4 inches per hour will be possible during the morning and early afternoon. The snow should taper off by the evening.
