Driver Found Dead In SUV After Crash On LI: Police

The SUV was found in the rear yard of a Calverton home Thursday morning, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A person was found dead in their SUV after a crash in Calverton Thursday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, a call came in at 7:07 a.m. about an SUV found in the rear yard of a home located on Sound Avenue. The 2011 Chevrolet HHR, which had been traveling north on Edwards Avenue, appeared to have hit a tree, police said. The driver was dead when police arrived, authorities said.

Riverhead detectives, as well as the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Officer, assisted in the investigation and the vehicle was impounded for a safety inspection, police said.
