SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Despite a delay in tallying the votes in Suffolk County, as of midnight, results came in indicating that John M. Kennedy Jr. had taken the lead over challenger Thomas Dolan.

As of 12:41 p.m., Kennedy had 302,817 votes, compared to Dolan's 203,927, with 87 districts not in.

As of midnight Wednesday, Suffolk County Board of Elections workers had difficulty loading memory cards needed to tally the vote, and reports have gauged the wait time anywhere from hours to Wednesday night. All the 1,400 memory cards from each voting machine need to brought back to the BOE’s Yaphank headquarters and then uploaded to indicate an accurate count.

"For the past eight years, John has served as your Suffolk County Comptroller, where he aggressively enforced audits and has worked to uncover and expose a tremendous amount of waste, fraud and abuse — saving taxpayers in excess of $50 million, while serving as a check on the power of a Democrat administration," Kennedy's website said.

Dolan has not been actively campaigning.
