Man Arrested At Seat Belt Checkpoint Charged With Felony DWI: Police

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested and charged with felony driving while intoxicated during a "Buckle Up New York/Click It or Ticket" campaign Thursday night, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, officers conducted the effort on Roanoake Avenue, near the First Street parking lot, at 10:15 p.m.

In addition to numerous summonses being issued for violations such as not properly wearing a seatbelt, failure to properly utilize child safety restraints, uninspected vehicles and unauthorized tinted windows, a man was charged with DWI, police said.

Maynor DeLeon, 42, entered the checkpoint with an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, police said. DeLeon was subsequently arrested and charged with felony DWI, transported to police headquarters for processing and held until morning arraignment, police said.

His vehicle was impounded via Suffolk County Seizure Law for having a prior conviction for DWI, police said.
