Man Charged With DWI After Hitting 2 Street Signs In Riverside: PD

RIVERSIDE, NY — A Riverhead man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing into two separate street signs and ending up on the curb, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place on Wednesday at about 4:29 p.m. Roman Romanyuk, 63, was observed by Riverhead police officers driving a motor vehicle while exiting the 76 gas station on Peconic Avenue in Riverside, police said.

When he headed onto Flanders Road, Romanyuk was seen striking two separate Department of Transportation street signposts, and eventually coming to rest on top of the curb, police said.

The Southampton Town Police Department responded; Romanyuk was interviewed and found to be intoxicated, police said. Romanyuk was arrested, transported to the Southampton Town Police Department, charged with misdemeanor DWI, and held to appear at morning arraignment, police said.
