Man Charged In Gunpoint Robbery At Popular LI Eatery: Police

RIVERHEAD, NY —A Patchogue man was arrested and charged after robbing at Riverhead eatery at gunpoint Wednesday night, police said.

According to Riverhead Town police, a 911 call in reference to a robbery came in at 10:32 p.m. from Shah's Halal Food, located on Route 58. The store manager said that a man came in with a bandana covering his face; he had a handgun and demanded money, police said.

The manager handed over an unspecified amount of money and the thief fled the area on a bicycle, police said.

On Tuesday, after an extensive investigation, Craig Cherney, 35, was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, a felony, police said. He was arraigned in Riverhead Justice Court.
