Man Dies In Head-On Aquebogue Crash Friday: Police

AQUEBOGUE, NY — A Huntington Station man died in an Aquebogue crash Friday morning, police said

According to Rivehead Town police, the crash took place at 11:47 a.m. on Main Road, east of Union Avenue.

Anthony Croce, 65, of Brooklyn, who was driving a 2018 BMW, collided head-on with a 2002 Nissan driven by Matthew Schramm, 67, of Huntington Station, police said.

Both men were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles, and both sustained significant injuries, police said.

The Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corp responded; Croce was transported via ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Schramm was transported via ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center with extensive injuries from the collision; he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at the hospital, police said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division and the New York State Police Department's forensic investigation unit both responded to assist in the investigation.
