March to Come in Like a Lion: 3 Rounds of Snow Ahead

There's only 20 days until the first day of spring, but Mother Nature wants everyone to know it's most certainly still winter.

Long Island could see several inches of snow fall through the weekend as three separate storm systems target the region.

Light snow is likely from about 4-10 a.m. Friday, the National Weather Service says. Close to an inch of accumulation is expected, enough to make things slippery on the roadways. The rest of day Friday should be dry, but more snow moves in at night.

Snow, possibly mixed with sleet, is expected from late Friday night through Saturday morning. A total of 2-4 inches of snow is likely to accumulate on the island, with the higher amounts on the East End.

The third storm arrives Sunday night and while the weather service hasn't made any accumulation estimates for that one yet, the storm "may produce more precipitation and possibly more snow."

"The exact track of that storm and magnitude of the lingering cold air in its path will determine the extent and intensity of snow, ice and rain in the Eastern states from Sunday to early Monday," AccuWeather Meteorologist Courtney Travis said.
