RIVERHEAD, NY — A student made an "unspecified threat" against Riverhead Middle School for tomorrow, Interim Superintendent of Schools William Galati said.

In a message to Blue Waves families, Galati said that on Thursday evening, they were alerted to the threat.

Upon learning of the threat, the district immediately launched an investigation and contacted the Riverhead Town Police, who opened their own investigation, Galati said. "The district, working in collaboration with law enforcement, was able to identify the student that made this threat. We have contacted and spoken with the student and their family."

While he said the district cannot share specific information regarding the student or details of the investigation in compliance with privacy laws, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the district's student code of character, conduct and support.

"Safety and security are our top priorities. We would like to remind our students and their families that if you see or hear something that is of concern, please report it immediately to district office or your child's building administration, a teacher or Riverhead Town Police," Galati said.
