Riverhead Police Officer Injured In Crash

The crash happened on Roanoke Avenue on Easter Sunday.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead police officer was injured in a crash Sunday, police said.

The crash took place at 5:36 p.m. when a 21-year-old traveling east in a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze on Lincoln Street made a left to go north on Roanoke Avenue and turned in front of a police officer who was driving south on Roanoke Avenue, according to Riverhead Town Police.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, police said. He was treated and released. The driver of the Chevrolet Cruz was treated at the scene for a minor injury and refused further medical attention, police said.

Both vehicles had heavy front-end damage, police said.
