Riverhead Digital Generation Students Attend Special Networking Event

Riverhead High School Students Collaborate with Peers at Other Districts as Part of Stony Brook University Dual Enrollment Experience

RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK (DECEMBER 2023) — Riverhead High School students in the Stony Brook University dual enrollment course The Digital Generation recently attended a special networking event at the Charles B. Wang Center at the Stony Brook University campus. At the event, students had the chance to meet and work together with their peers from other districts in the dual enrollment course. They gained valuable experiences meeting and collaborating with others in a professional setting, with a focus on introductions and team building strategies.

“This networking event was an incredible opportunity for our students to spend time out of the classroom and engage in beneficial interactions in a professional setting,” said Riverhead Central School District Interim Superintendent Cheryl Pedisich. “The Digital Generation is a wonderful class for our students, as it not only engages them in unique coursework but gives them college credits and provides relevant experiences for their future academic pursuits and careers.”

The Digital Generation—sponsored by Google, Eastern Suffolk BOCES and Stony Brook University—is offered as a half-year course at Riverhead High School. Students who complete the course can earn three college credits through Stony Brook University. Students also have the opportunity to attend collaborative events with peers from other districts and work with the Riverhead Chamber of Commerce.

As part of their coursework, students are tasked with building brands and learning how to manage these brands on the Internet. Students also learn skills to help them build their personal brand for use after the class is completed to advance their academic and career opportunities.

Riverhead High School senior Carley Lamond attended the networking event and crafted a short documentary about the experience as part of her independent study in marketing. Carley’s video can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkjBETtkKt4.
