RIVERHEAD, NY — Riverhead Town is one step closer to a new Town Hall facility.

Riverhead Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar announced Wednesday that the town had closed on the purchase of 4 - 6 W. 2nd Street and 214 Griffing Avenue, which was the former Peconic Bay Medical Center's Robert Entenmann campus.

The location will serve as the new Town Hall, Aguiar said.

The acquisition complements the town’s revitalization efforts and allows Peconic Bay Medical Center funds to expand women’s health and ambulatory services, officials said.

"This town purchase will allow for the much-needed expansion of Riverhead's police department and the town justice court, and enhance services to our community. We thank the Peconic Bay Medical Foundation for working and partnering with us on this much needed effort in our community,” said Aguiar.

She added that the transition is expected to begin during the next three months and be complete by the end of the year.

The purchase was first announced in November.

The goal is developing a new Town Hall central to revitalization efforts, Aguiar said.

"We are thrilled to be of assistance to the town and offer the property for sale. In turn, this new venture will enable us to expand our medical infrastructure and services to the community,” said Amy Loeb, executive director of Peconic Bay Medical Center, at the time.

The new town hall will provide a meeting room, as well as office space for departments including the town historian, the tax receiver, the town clerk, the assessor, community development, code enforcement, building and planning, the town supervisor and town board, the town attorney, information technology, accounting, human resources, purchasing and more.

Riverhead's justice court will be relocated to the current Town Hall and the police department will expand its offices and remain at the current location.
