Winter Weather Advisory Issued; See Latest Snow Total Estimates

Plan on slippery road conditions for the Wednesday evening commute, the National Weather Service says.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Long Island. It will be in effect from 3 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday.

A total of 2-3 inches of snow in Nassau County and 1-2 inches in Suffolk County is likely.

A quick burst of moderate snowfall will be possible Wednesday afternoon and evening, the NWS says.

"Plan on slippery road conditions," the winter weather advisory says. "The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute."

Tuesday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 18. North wind 6 to 9 mph.

Wednesday- Snow likely, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. North wind around 7 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Wednesday Night- Rain, snow, and sleet before 9pm, then rain and sleet between 9pm and 10pm, then rain after 10pm. Temperature rising to around 39 by 3am. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Southeast wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Thursday- A 30 percent chance of rain, mainly before 7am. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 52. West wind 6 to 14 mph.

Thursday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 33. Northwest wind around 11 mph.

Friday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 43.

Friday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 30.

Saturday- Partly sunny, with a high near 43.
