Woman Dies After Being Thrown From Motorcycle In Crash: Police

The crash took place on Sunday and involved another vehicle that rolled over, police say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — A 45-year old woman died after being thrown from her motorcycle in a rollover crash on Sound Avenue in Riverhead Sunday, police said.

According to Riverhead police, the crash took place at 5:57 p.m. on Sound Avenue east of Horton Avenue. A 50-year old man was heading east in a 2003 Honda Civic when the woman, who was heading west on a Harley Davidson, entered the eastbound lane and struck the Honda, police said.

The woman was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene, police said.

The Honda Civic left the road and flipped over, police said. The driver was pulled from his vehicle by the Riverhead Fire Department and transported to by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corpto Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

New York State Police's accident reconstruction unit responded and assisted in the investigation, police said.
