Greenburgh looking to interview children of Holocaust survivors for tv

part of our living history initiatives for future generations to appreciate

During the past fifteen
years the town of Greenburgh has organized a number of living history
initiatives involving Greenburgh community members.. We have interviewed 150
Greenburgh veterans of World War II and the Korean conflict; have a 9-11
living history stories initiative (Greenburgh survivors of 9-11 recall their
experiences on that difficult day). We have aired interviews of Holocaust
survivors on our public access TV shows. And – have posted stories on a website
highlighting local residents African American Diaspora experiences. The
goal is to make history come alive for future generations. We don’t want our
children to forget the contributions that our residents have made to the world
and also don’t want them to forget some of the struggles Greenburgh residents
experienced during the past centuries.

There
are fewer Holocaust survivors around. Their legacy of their survival must never
be forgotten. If you are a child of a Holocaust survivor and would like to be
interviewed as part of our Holocaust Living History initiative please e mail me
at [email protected]

Helen
Rubel shared the story of her mother and grandmother who were survivors of the
Holocaust during an interview on Solving Problems recently. By sharing her
mother’s first person account of fleeing Germany, Helen hopes to ensure that
history does not repeat itself and that people become upstanders or
someone who stands up for what is right.

In
2019 a group of adult children of Holocaust survivors met through a program
sponsored by the HHREC (Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center) of
Westchester. The goal was to develop personal narratives about their
parents and in one case, a grandmother’s experiences surviving the
Holocaust. The stories are available in a book, “Testaments of
Courage in the Holocaust”. The book can be ordered through Amazon.
