IRVINGTON, NY — There's no need to wait for an excuse to explore a picturesque Hudson River village, but if you were waiting for a reason, Irvington has just unleashed 26 good ones.

After last year's successful Bulldog Walking Gallery, the public sculpture installation is returning to downtown Irvington this summer.

Starting this weekend through September, at least 26 fantastically decorated, fiberglass bulldogs — each representing Irvington’s beloved mascot — will be displayed on Main Street.

Visitors will also encounter bulldogs inspired by everything from architecture to board games and locally produced food, including Mr. Monopoly, baked goods from The Red Barn Bakery, local scenery, and Irvington's beloved basketball coach, Gina Maher, who secured a historic 800th win this year.

A 27th bulldog named "Perfect Day," depicting a gorgeous sunset over The Palisades, is going astray. The sculpture will appear outside Greenburgh Town Hall and also pop up in other parts of lower Westchester to offer a fun taste of the main gallery.

The official opening will be during the Irvington Summer Festival, which takes place between noon and 4 p.m. on Sunday. There will be games, including a scavenger hunt, arts activities, food, and other attractions.

"Last year’s Bulldog Walking Gallery was a real talking point, with thousands of locals and visitors admiring the colorful sculptures," Kristina Schmidt, the artist and small business owner behind the project, said. "Once again, we are bringing the community together and adding that extra special charm to our village."

Schmidt, who is co-chair of Irvington’s Committee for Arts and Culture, came up with the idea after visiting other cities and towns displaying their own whimsical animal sculptures.

The bulldogs, which can be seen on foot or by car, provide a great opportunity to explore Irvington's restaurants, cafes, shops, parks, and other attractions. The town also offers free parking.

At the end of the exhibition, this fall, the bulldogs will be auctioned off, with proceeds supporting upcoming community arts projects.

Sponsors include MP Taverna, Lenco Tile, and Ivkosic Painting, community groups and individuals.
