SMITHTOWN, NY — Meowy, a female estimated to be 14 years old, is the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pet of the Week.

Meowy is a charismatic tuxedo colored, short haired gal, the shelter wrote.

"This sweet feline was brought to the animal shelter as a stray with a massive infection on her hind end that required swift medical attention which was provided by the shelter," it wrote. "Despite experiencing discomfort, Meowy was very brave and cooperative through all her treatments and is now doing extraordinarily well. Meowy is a gentle lady that will sit on your lap for hours on end. Her incredibly outgoing nature and longing for love is evident from her tendency to follow around her caretakers with hopes of greeting human and furry friends around the shelter. This endearing beauty loves all. After all she has been through, this adoring soul deserves a forever home she can finally call her own."

Meowy would make a "wonderful addition" to any home, including those with children, other cats and dogs, the shelter wrote.

"As a result of her infection, she is experiencing some difficulty with her bowels which may subside over time," it wrote. "Nothing would make Meowy happier than to find that special family where she can make up for lost time, doting on one lucky family who will reciprocate with an endless supply of snuggles and TLC."

All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.

The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
