She was first surrendered to the shelter when her beloved owner relocated to assisted living.

"Cannoli was adopted for the second time, but when her owner passed away suddenly she returned to the Smithtown Animal Shelter heartbroken," the shelter wrote. "Despite her hardships, this fabulous little feline remains friendly and outgoing, and is ready to find her FINAL forever-ever family."

The shelter said Cannoli is a "deliciously sweet gal" who will melt one's heart.

"Much like a perfect Italian pastry does. She is very comfortable around people and enjoys being on both the giving and receiving end where attention and TLC is concerned. Cannoli is perfect for most any home, from a large family with kids, homes with other cats, and even mellow dogs."

There are currently a variety of male and female cats and kittens available to adopt or foster.

"If you are looking for a fun-loving, yarn-tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two," the shelter stated.

All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.

The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
