SMITHTOWN, NY — Huey, Dewey and Louie, a trio of male Pekin ducks, are the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pets of the Week.

They were found abandoned in a pond in a local park while being picked on by wild fowl, according to the shelter.

"They were scared and confused while huddled together on the shore," the shelter wrote. "They all love to eat, waddle around, and quack the day away. They are such a joy to be around and will no doubt put a smile on your face. Huey, Dewey, and Louie deserve a big space with water to swim in and protection from extreme weather and predators. We would love for these boys to be adopted together, but they can separate as long as they will not be alone."

The Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter is not equipped to safely house animals other than dogs and cats long term.

"However, if an animal is in danger and needs housing temporarily until another rescue has room, we will do our best to provide safe shelter while we can," it wrote. "While the animal waits for space to open in another rescue, it will be available for adoption through our Adoption Center."

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.

The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
